ANOTHER VICTORY PARADE
The March 28, 1939, after almost two and half years of siege and resistance, the city of Madrid was to be given to troops Franco. Fulfilling orders of Colonel Sigismund Married, which earlier this month it had taken control of power in the Republic after a coup against the Government of Negrin, the Colonel Adolfo Prada also goes to the ruins of the Clinical Hospital , to hand over the city to Colonel Slabs, who commanded the 16 Division of Franco's forces occupied part of the Casa de Campo and the City University. With this symbolic act will put an end to almost a thousand days of fighting that had claimed the lives of thousands of people, although many more would die later.

Franco's army almost entirely around the city is preparing to finally enter the city after not having been able to achieve after several attempts with guns. The honor of doing so in the first place is reserved for troops who have remained in the University City, arguably the toughest area around the front, where the positions of both sides have been separated by few meters, occupying a certain faculties and rest the other side. In this situation, which has remained virtually unchanged since November 1936, the casualties have been very high on both sides, and have also been enormous hardships they have had to experience, so they are chosen to go first in the city.

Entry would be by the main avenue leading to the University City ie the current Princess Street during the Republic had called Vicente Blasco Ibáñez. In front of this parade unique is a young lieutenant of Engineers Regiment No 7 Valladolid, José María de Yturriaga, which would be filmed and photographed for various media, making the image of the time. But this makeshift "victory parade" staged a tremendous drama, was the staging of the irreparable division between the two Spains to that referred Machado, was the document graph showing as opened a devastating injuries that would take decades to close, for much of the nation began a long period of difficulty, repression, violence and hardship. The timing of the entry tells us the hero, José María de Yturriaga, as follows:

"First we had to blow up a wall built by the republican army prevented us step up to the perfume Gal ( Galaxy present building) and then enter. We lay on the ground to prevent us from falling debris in the head. Then, on foot, marched down the street from the Princess and Leganitos and a little later, in the Gran Via, were photographed and filmed "(published in El País 3.28.2009).

have had to pass seventy-one years and some days the time for another "victory parade" through new Princess Street, but this time, unlike him, did not mean any break or discord, in contrast, has become a meeting ground for the vast majority of English, for the first time in many years, and perhaps one of the very few occasions throughout the history of this country have agreed to a common cause. In our previous review we talked about this time compared to Spain with paella, and there have been countless lines that have been written in different media for the record of this social phenomenon and its importance. Therefore in this review we will merely refer to chart this time, comparing some of them with images of that month of March 1939, so contrary to the vivid sign that July 11, 2010. Can you imagine someone screaming fellow readers in Princess Street in March 1939 "Viva La Roja"?.

(CON FORGIVENESS), THE DUKE AND THE DUKE OF ALBA Fuentealbilla.

THE RED (pardon me), THE DUKE AND THE DUKE OF ALBA Fuentealbilla.

The Red players receive the trophy for the World Cup. (Double Click on any image to enlarge).

"Cursed octopus, I buried in the ridiculous. Destroy the work of my life." David Spiegelhalter, Professor of Statistics and Probability University of Cambridge.

If memory do you dear readers in a previous review published in this weekly entitled "De los Austrias Mourinho" remembered the arrival of this dynasty to the throne of Spain as the first monarch of the same, Charles I, would converted by different hereditary rebounds in the most powerful monarch of the whole world, and remained under his authority much of the European territories including the Netherlands, which form part of the present Netherlands. Have to govern so many and such diverse areas is no easy task, especially if you over complicate the British, French and even the popes of Rome, not to mention the wily Turk. With a picture like that and taking into account that at that time the UN did not exist, the solution to the various conflicts that may occur as you imagine it, is implemented by decree law of the strongest.

addition at that time the UN did not exist, also had a serious handicap that does not exist the aircraft, faster and more reliable to know the horse was galloping, surpassed only by the release of an emissary to the catapult, although it is true that the horse gave a lower accident rate and efficiency. Therefore it was virtually impossible for a sovereign if their domains were very extensive, could be everywhere there was uproar, which removed delegating something so fashionable in current private enterprise. And for that people chose their confidence and who have shown their unwavering loyalty to the crown, although often they come out the backfired with the election. It would be endless to remember the countless viceroys, and other valid charges of direct appointment, among which we would find people of diverse degustation, from great men to authentic villains, and a high number of useless, probably the largest group, if not they should ask the Bourbons. Today we will focus on one of those men in whom the kings put their trust Don Fernando Alvarez de Toledo and Pimentel, Gran Duque de Alba (as you see dear readers, another noble named Brandy).

A portrait of the Duke of Alba in Flanders stage.

The Duke of Alba, famous ancestor of the current Duchess of Alba certainly better known than his great-grandfather was a military man and English diplomat who was very young he showed his undoubted talent for both committed and that with only six years went to accompany his grandfather to take Navarra, who does not want the thing. His first assignment seriously Charles I commissioned it in 1532, the Ottomans had reached Vienna and had surrounded the city, the Duke in command of 200,000 men was sent to restore order there, although she did not need or draw, since the Turks seeing what was awaiting them they ran, or Istanbul coming to the same thing. Later he was to campaign for North Africa, Tunis taking the lousy Barbarossa. Participate later in command of the dreaded Thirds in the battle of Muhlberg, which would contribute significantly to the final victory. El Duque to start serving Charles I would continue with his son Philip II, who would appoint the Viceroy of Naples, where he would have to give account of himself in Rome Pope Paul IV, if readers like what they hear friends, who had dared to challenge Felipe II alliance with the King of France, who after the debacle in SanQuintin, which was put together well, he abandoned the pope would have to surrender after winning the Duke of Alba the city of Rome.

The current Duchess of Alba in the 50's. To see how far we can go with the terrible time.

By now the story will have understood that the Duke was a rising star, a person whom he could entrust important tasks. However, in 1566, produced in the Netherlands a series of riots in cities instigated by the Calvinists. Philip II could not allow a similar event in a territory of the economic, strategic and policy and to solve it sent one of his best men as you will have guessed it was the Duke of Alba. Like the UN, or aircraft at that time there was no film, but the Duke applied the basic and unchanging principle underlying all of John Wayne films, namely, "something happened, someone will collect ". And said and done, there was the Duke is accompanied by a large army, that if you're not going in that people plan ignores you and the first thing he did was set the "Court of the Troubles" also be known as "Court of Blood," You see the reason for this dual designation. But in addition to exercising a severe repression, the Duke began a rigorous tax collection policy to fund the army which accompanied him, which finally spark an already heated atmosphere and causing several cities were declared in default. At the end Felipe II decided to send the Duke to the bench in 1573, but at that time Alba had gotten create a clear picture, imagine how would that even today when Dutch children do not want to finish the food their mothers threaten to a resounding "And do not eat it will come the Duke of Alba" which usually has knock-on effects. A guy with charisma, yes sir.

Cartoon time of "terrible and vicious" Duque de Alba.

But if all the work of Duke was not enough, in 1577 the English troops, who had spent more than two years without charge, sacked the city of Antwerp, leaving behind thousands of victims. These are just episodes in a period that became known as the "War of 80 years" would end the independence of the English Crown Flanders. This war can be considered a kind of English Vietnam, in which the Crown would a good number of men, and significant resources and would mean the beginning of imperial decline. But would the birth of what became known as the "English Fury," but in a very different sense that was used regarding the game selection. The English Fury concept beginning to take shape after the emergence of the "Apology of the Prince D'Orange" whose authorship is attributed to the prince but is well known that this is the work of a "black", not the racial sense if non-literary. In this apology is given a summary of all the propaganda anti-English and also against the Church and the dreaded Inquisition, creating an image of English bloodthirsty barbarian who enjoys making heretics barbecue, including bestiality, among which the Duke of Alba as one of the people who most enjoys these shows, according to the book, to add that most of the English, especially the nobility, are Jewish or Arab blood. And the latter probably more cabrearía out what the Duke, you say you're a beast can pass even may even get to like, but you say you do not have the pure blood especially if you are noble, that and if not until we could get there. And of course then what happens happens, if they are causing!, You have to be unconscious to provoke a English Duke in command of an army. For its part English and French received with great joy the appearance of this best seller, which would be translated into many languages, we know the love that we have, and if not just ask Negrin. The image of the Black Spain quickly spread throughout the world, often with foundation and not others, such as when the French called to syphilis as "bad English" when in reality everyone knows that it is "bad French", you see dear readers where they conduct some Sometimes the "nacionalpatrotismos" untied.

As we have observed repeatedly in the pages of this publication history is stubborn and persevering in the end just the truth. After more than four centuries of ignonimia last Sunday we saw who the beast and those who refined, who used excessive violence and who the elegance and craftsmanship. Finally we managed to shake off San Benito that we had placed with the misunderstood "English Fury." Last Sunday the English, "La Roja", gave a real lesson in good game to the Dutch, who found only solution to stop the red tide using excessive violence to which the gallant and brave English players fought bare-chested (which tell it to Xavi Alonso), responding to the challenge in style (it was not necessary to remove Marchena).

Terrible attack on a Dutch player to Real Madrid Xavi Alonso.

sensed the game was hot from the run, listening to what he says the Dutch anthem, to be exact which is entitled "The William" in reference to William of Orange, who signed the libel calumnisoso, nothing else and nothing less. In one of his verses the hymn says, "My soul is tormented noble oh faithful watching the English cruel insult you." If this is not get fuel to fire an arsonist to come and see it. I wonder, dear readers, how he gets the English national anthem?, If not disturbing anyone does not have a point, another lesson of tolerance from the beginning. If we observe the time of the hymns we can see another reality that clearly stated what our guys were going to face, looking at the faces of the Dutch players there was no doubt watching his combed the vast majority of them were "Calvinists" . But most disturbing of all was to watch the English referee himself (So we wanted more, see that no country in the world) was a Calvinist to the hock too. If all this accumulation of adverse circumstances were not enough, you think the amount of times these orange government have had to hear what the mandarins still being "If you do not eat this tasty soup, pickled herring with cream of spinach beet and bitter Duke of Alba will come and you flambé, something that has unfailingly burn for a lifetime the subconscious of any child who gets to survive the soup and Dutch cuisine.

The "Calvinist" trio arbitral beginning of the meeting.

the above, the match could not start other than with repeated indiscriminate attacks against the combined English members who responded by deploying only a superb game, while the Calvinist college she shared British acts of the Committee on Non-Intervention and looked the other way, as if looking for a cousin in the stands, while the continued impunity in the field of play entries referred to as a crime under the Geneva Convention itself. Do not narrate the game and you all as good as fans have seen on several occasions and also know very well the result. Only stress again the fact that after four years of unfounded slanders justice has finally been clearly demonstrated and who are the knights and those thugs. To demonstrate that we are gentlemen, we could take advantage of the events in South Africa to speak of Afrikaners, but not make more fuel.

Fuentealbilla Duke celebrates his goal against the bleakness of some of the Dutch players.

Now I would like to devote some words to end this human group that has managed to make this great epic, epic event to remember our great grandchildren in their old age. If fellow readers a heterogeneous group of youths, mostly from lower classes and from all points of the national territory, which have achieved this great feat. Someone once said that what best represents Spain is paella, communal dish par excellence, a dish that has many and varied ingredients and bases its excellence in the ratio between them, when all ingredients are at their fair proportion according to the characteristics and nature of each, the sublime paella is a dish rarely found elsewhere, but nevertheless, when it is intended that any of the ingredients stand out against others, paella dish becomes unbearable cloying and indigestible usually aimed dumpsters. Well, something similar happens with Spain, is made up of different components of cultural, historical and social, each with its own idiosyncrasies and distinct characteristics, that if you combine all of them the result can be sublime, but if it wants to impose a "ingredient" in front of others throughout the pan, or an "ingredient" that predominates in a particular area of the pan, the result leaves much to be desired, often having to resort to junk food, with great damage and disappointment of all people. Well dear friends, readers, this selection has acted as a sublime paella with the precision of a Swiss watch, as "paella mechanics," as one with a clear objective which has not featured any "ingredient" and the results have been gratifying to see.

Vicente del Bosque emulating Columbus points the way forward.

I do not want anyone out of the components of this group, but if you mention two of them as representatives of the group. One is the coach Vicente del Bosque, who has made known to the world the "seni" Salamanca, and the other is that Fuentealbilla manchego, Andres Iniesta, who scored the title that would, a shy and humble as anyone representing the entire group. If under Franco were granted titles of nobility as "Duque de Primo de Rivera", or "Duque de Mola", or "Marqués de Queipo de Llano" among many others, I would ask you to Andrés Iniesta be awarded the Grand Duchy of Fuentealbilla with Grandee of Spain. In this way the Dutch children and would not need to mention the Duke of Alba, lest they drink the soup, it would suffice to say: "If you want to drink the soup, the Duke of Fuentealbilla come." Is already shaking the Baltic herring.

must also remember all those people who has worked in the shadows to make this victory possible, would be many people to name but among them one that I keep with his efforts with the youth of players has undoubtedly contributed to the victory of Spain, I mean Joan Laporta . From here I want to thank you on behalf of the English his effort: "Thanks Joanetes, your excellent work has contributed greatly to a better Spain."

Militiamen contemplate some of the artefacts recovered from the Palace of the Dukes of Alba in Madrid after Franco's air strike .

But we could not finish a chronic untreated SOL AND FLIES none of the topics of our paper, namely the bulls and the English Civil War. A little scratching always in the national reality always leaves some of these issues and today we will speak briefly of the Duchy of Alba during the Civil War. Upon the coup of 1936 the duchy was held by Jacobo Maria del Pilar Carlos Manuel Fitz-James Stuart Falco Palafox-Portocarrero and Osorio, who also held the British title of nobility X Duke of Berwick, which made him a perfect knowledge of the country, besides having excellent relations in all economic and political environments, as it also was related the British Royal Family. Given their noble status was clearly opposed to the existence of the Republic, following the proclamation of this would go away to London where he would be surprised (or maybe already knew that) the lifting of July 18, 1936. Franco could not miss this influential figure, and although the UK is not officially recognized the Franco regime, the Duke served as a kind of unofficial ambassador of it. Throughout the conflict Don Jacobo conducted intense that no doubt contributed significantly to the performance, or more precisely the lack of action, British during the English race, perhaps one of the factors more decisively contributed to the final defeat of the Republic. Recognizing the British government to Franco, the Duke would become ambassador to the United Kingdom the dictator's regime, but Don James, how could it be otherwise because of their noble status, was a convinced monarchist. When Don Juan de Borbon went public Lausanne Manifesto in which he advocated that Franco stepped down and gave way to a constitutional monarchy and democratic, and can you imagine the response of the Caudillo. After that the Duke would give up the embassy in London until his death in 1953 was devoted to his historical studies, leading to direct the Royal English Academy of History all the while maintaining an aloof attitude of coldness with the dictator.

bombed Foreign Palacio de Liria, with some objects recovered from inside after the bombing.

and ends (this time it really) with a little story. Liria Palace in Madrid located at Princess Street is the residence of the Dukes of Alba, and like many other buildings in the neighborhood of Argüelles was bombed by Franco's aviation. The building was a museum because the number of works of art and treasured valuables. He mounted a major operation to save from the flames all those treasures, and that was used by the Republican propaganda to sign a major media as showing how the militants were risking their lives to save the heritage of an aristocrat of the flames caused by the action of the fascist Italian and German aircraft. So far, a fact well known to any good fan, but after a few after the end of the war Franco visited Duke in his office in El Pardo, taking a big surprise to see that this was sitting in a beautiful and valuable antique table of his property that he had already given up after the fire of the Palace of Liria. The almighty franc would be thrilled not to have to return which undoubtedly helped to cool even further the relationship between them. Is seen that a rogue country that is this high, who hesitates is lost.

The Duke of Alba and her family at the Royal Palace before the proclamation of the Republic, the baby is the current Duchess of Alba.

And here the record of this epic event that we have narrated, had prepared a review based on the Fiestas de San Fermin, 1936 we will publish next week. Below you can watch a series of images obtained by the official photographer of the editorial PHOTO JAZ, where they can see the moments before the event and the celebration in the streets of the title, with the sequence of a "comb" from Xavi Alonso bus a group of Dutch people who witnessed the parade.
